Since its founding in 1991, the Culture and Free Thought Association has established itself as a leading institution in the Gaza Strip, committed to strengthening the resilience of Palestinian society through an approach that combines development, empowerment, and humanitarian response. The association began with a pioneering initiative: the establishment of the “Sunrise and Hope Center” for children during the First Intifada. Over the following decades, it has evolved into an integrated network of community centers providing diverse services targeting women, children, and youth, empowering them to exercise their rights and enhance their role in building society.
In light of the ongoing challenges facing Palestinians, the association has expanded its work to include programs addressing the basic needs of the most vulnerable groups. It operates through seven community centers, offering educational, health, psychological, and social services, as well as protection, economic empowerment, and legal support programs. Building on its extensive experience, the association undertook a fundamental strategic shift in 2024, moving from a center-based model to an integrated program model. This has enhanced its effectiveness in service delivery and ensured a more comprehensive response to emerging needs amidst recurring crises.

The association continues to provide support to targeted groups in the most affected areas, relying on a participatory, human rights-based approach. It also plays a key role in building the capacity of grassroots organizations and strengthening partnerships with local and international stakeholders, contributing to a more just and equitable social environment.
The Culture and Free Thought Association believes that sustainable change can only be achieved by empowering individuals, ensuring their access to their fundamental rights, and promoting their active participation in shaping their future. Therefore, the association remains committed to its mission of supporting Palestinian society, strengthening its resilience, and continuing to work towards a future of justice and human dignity.
The Culture and Free Thought Association has a presence in both Al-Bureij and Khan Yunis camps, with access to services covering all areas of the central camps and the southern regions of the Gaza Strip.
