Launching the Children’s Parliament Activities in the Educational Spaces of the Culture and Free Thought Association
Members of the Child Parliament in the educational spaces of the Culture and Free Thought Association in Khan Younis convened their first session today. This initiative aims to strengthen children’s participation in public life and promote the values of democracy and active citizenship, empowering them to express their views and raise issues that matter to them within their educational and community environments.
The session followed the completion of the Children’s Parliament elections across the educational spaces, marking an important step toward launching the Parliament’s work in the coming period. During the session,The Parliament’s President and Vice President were elected, along with the formation of subcommittees to oversee different areas of work, propose initiatives and activities, and strengthen coordination among members across the various educational spaces.
The Children’s Parliament elections were held last week in a lively and competitive atmosphere, following a wide awareness and campaign initiative in which children participated across the educational spaces. More than 1,200 children, boys and girls, took part in the election process, choosing their representatives from among 84 candidates—40 boys and 44 girls.
During the election campaigns, candidates presented their programs and ideas, focusing on improving activities and services within the educational spaces and addressing issues that matter to children. This gave voters the opportunity to learn about the proposed programs and choose their representatives based on democratic principles.
This experience comes as part of the Culture and Free Thought Association’s (CFTA) ongoing efforts to empower children and promote their active community participation, by creating safe spaces for self-expression and building key skills in leadership, teamwork, and decision-making.
The Parliament is expected to continue holding regular sessions in the coming period to discuss issues and ideas raised by children and develop initiatives and activities that reflect their needs and aspirations. This will contribute to fostering their awareness of their rights and responsibilities, while instilling a culture of participation and social responsibility.
